North Lakes Sports & Spinal is located opposite the Westfield Shopping Centre, conveniently located near Deception Bay, Narangba, Dakabin, Kallangur, Murrumba Downs, Rothwell, Burpengary, Mango Hill, Caboolture and Morayfield.

With an emphasis on core conditioning, breathing and body awareness, our Core, Strength & Mobility classes are a safe and highly effective way to stretch, strengthen and streamline your body without building bulk or stressing your joints.

Core, Strength & Mobility classes utilise various exercises that incorporate balance, power, strength and stability.Β Β

This can be done either using the Pilates equipment (reformer, trapeze table, exercise ball etc.) in a CSM Studio class or the form of a Mat Class, utilising bodyweight and minimal equipment. From here, we build and progress your program as appropriate with continued advice and education throughout, so you left feeling a better version of YOU.Β Β

Our Core, Strength & Mobility classes are a fitness regime for life, performed on a mat or with specialised equipment. The perfect complement to cardiovascular exercise, sport, rehab and life, these classes will leave you looking toned, feeling revitalised and moving with ease.

Both Physiotherapists and Exercise Physiologists run our classes with Clinical Pilates Experience. Clinical Pilates refers to one-on-one Pilates often used for injury rehabilitation and in conjunction with physiotherapy. Sports & Spinal offers both and can cater to your exact needs.

All patients are required to have an initial assessment with a Physiotherapist or Exercise Physiologist before beginning any of our classes. This is to familiarise patients with equipment, positions, and exercises and identify any injuries/restrictions that we may need to be aware of prior to a patient attending a class.

North Lakes Sports & Spinal is NDISΒ registered and accepts Medicare rebates and HICAPS health fund claims. EFTPOS and credit card facilities are also available for payment.Β

Core, Strength & Mobility classes are perfect for toning and reshaping the body. It works on creating long, lean muscles, toning all of those hard to target areas such as the abdominals, inner thighs, buttocks, back of thighs, sides and backs of the arms. For toning, these classes are best performed 3 to 5 times a week through a combination of studio sessions, mat classes and home exercises.

Pilates exercises are performed through a wide range of movements and work on lengthening the muscles at the same time as strengthening them. To increase flexibility, stretching exercises need to be performed daily.

The Clinical Pilates exercises used in our Core, Strength & Mobility classes focus on strengthening the weakened postural muscles and stretching the tight muscles that pull the body into these poor postures. Studio sessions are the best way to improve posture as our physiotherapists can develop a program to target your specific postural problems. Pilates can also be used for back pain as it relaxes and strengthens the muscles, easing the discomfort.

Our Core, Strength & Mobility classes use Clinical Pilates techniques which are fantastic for injury rehabilitation and prevention as it works on core stability, posture, flexibility, and correcting muscle imbalances and weaknesses via specific strengthening. It can be used for arthritis, neck pain, back pain and various injuries.

Pilates is the secret tool that many high level and recreational athletes use to enhance their performance, decrease the risk of injuries and provide much-needed cross-training. Each sport has specific strength and flexibility requirements. When you book in for an assessment, your physiotherapist will look at the things you need to work on to improve your performance and then proceed to design a Pilates program for you.

Trudi Mercer

Physiotherapist

Trudi grew up in the UK competing in many different sports which ignited her interest in physiotherapy. After graduating from Kings College London in 2014 with a BSc Honours degree in physiotherapy, she gained a wealth of experience within acute hospital settings. In a large teaching hospital in central London, she treated patients with a huge range of conditions in multiple specialties. After a few years she returned back to her hometown to progress her career in a private hospital.

This led to Trudi working with industry-leading surgeons on patients wanting to return to all levels of activity with complex orthopaedic procedures, both in the public and private sector. Trudi was then able to combine her love for sports and physiotherapy, working with several professional sports teams. This included high-performing athletes at a Championship Rugby Union side, a British Basketball Championship side and an internationally acclaimed performing arts Institute.

In order to keep her practices up to date and relevant, Trudi has completed advanced taping courses, developed her dry needling skills and continued to progress her exercise prescription. She also opened her own small business in the UK focusing on clients in the community who require extensive physio after long hospital stays or injuries that threaten their independence. As a result, she boasts an extensive knowledge of specific and appropriate rehabilitation from injury.

Because of her 10 years in the industry, Trudi is very capable of treating a wide range of conditions. She has a particular interest in acute back and neck problems, through to ankle, knee and foot rehabilitation with specific goals to return to sport. She strives to provide a personal service to all clients and age groups who seek out physiotherapy at Sports & Spinal.

Outside of work Trudi enjoys playing tennis regularly and practices what she preaches with her dedication to the gym. She takes any opportunity to travel the world with her partner hence their big move to Australia!

Trudi is available for physiotherapy appointments at our North Lakes and Redcliffe clinics.

Kelly Grant

Physiotherapist

Please note Kelly will be back in the clinic on January 7th 2025. For bookings, please call 07 3152 7212

Born and raised in the UK, Kelly underwent professional vocational dance training at The Royal Ballet School, which sparked her interest in Physiotherapy through her experience with injury rehabilitation and recovery. In 2012, Kelly graduated from The University of Birmingham, UK, with a first-class BSc Honours degree in Physiotherapy. She then pursued diverse clinical rotations at a Major Trauma Hospital in Cardiorespiratory, Neurology, Trauma and Orthopaedics, and General Medicine wards, working alongside world-leading surgeons.

Eventually, she focused on Musculoskeletal rehabilitation. With over ten years of experience as a Physiotherapist in both the national health service and private sectors, Kelly has worked with individuals from various backgrounds, treating a broad range of injuries and conditions, including persistent pain. This has allowed her to develop fundamental knowledge and skills in pain neuroscience, injury assessment, prevention, and rehabilitation.

Kelly is an avid runner, dancer, yogi, and gym enthusiast. Her passion for exercise and the benefits of a healthy, balanced lifestyle led her to expand her knowledge and skills in this area. In 2020, she completed an MSc module in exercise prescription and rehabilitation at The University of Hertfordshire. Additionally, Kelly has pursued additional training in acupuncture and sports massage. She combines manual therapy with exercise and education to provide holistic and individualised treatment plans. As an APPI-trained mat work Pilates instructor, she has extensive experience teaching one-on-one sessions and classes.

With a special interest in shoulder and upper limb rehabilitation, Kelly previously established an advanced-level rehabilitation class aimed at helping individuals return to sports and manual occupations.

Kelly is passionate about listening to peoples’ stories, building trusting and collaborative relationships, personalising the rehabilitation process, and empowering individuals to achieve their goals, exceed their expectations, and take ownership of improving their quality of life. She also has a keen interest in mindfulness and recognises the benefits of exercise on mental health and wellbeing, incorporating this approach into her physiotherapy management.

Outside of work, Kelly enjoys running, hiking, gym training, and, more recently, paddle boarding. She also loves going to the theatre, attending live music events, and being an enthusiastic traveller. She recently relocated to Australia and looks forward to exploring her new surroundings.

Kelly is available for Physiotherapy appointments at our North Lakes clinic.

Cat Egan

Physiotherapist

CatΒ has worked in the health sector since 2009. After graduating as a physiotherapist from James Cook University, it wasn’t long before she found her niche and passion for working in private practice.

Cat’s enthusiasm for her job is evident in the way she both treats and advocates for her patients. Cat has completed additional training and is skilled in the areas of dry needling, Pilates and treating various areas of the body. Cat enjoys the challenge of complex report writing which is often required for various third-party agencies such as Work Cover, Compulsory Third-Party insurance, Department of Veteran’s Affairs and the National Disability Insurance Scheme. Prior to transitioning to private practice, Cat was employed in the acute care hospital setting on both the orthopaedic and medical wards and rurally in the aged care sector.

Cat appreciates the variety and challenges of working in private practice and enjoys treating patients with conditions of all areas of the body, especially theΒ knees andΒ ankles. In 2019 Cat was invited to present at a symposium in Brisbane where she shared her knowledge and experience and provided hands on training for healthcare professionals regarding prehospital musculoskeletal assessment of the ankle.

Cat developed a love of exercise and movement from a young age, particularly through athleticsΒ (track and field). Cat enjoys training and competitive competition andΒ hasΒ achieved her goal of becoming a two-time Oceania Champion in the Open Women’s Long Jump and making the final of the Stawell Gift in the 70-metre race.

Cat has strong military ties in her family. Because of this, Cat has a vested interest in assisting the defence community and enjoys helping both current and ex-serving military personnel and their families overcome their physical injuries and improve their quality of life.

Prior to becoming a Physiotherapist, Cat commenced her career in healthcare as a Registered Paramedic whereΒ she worked in various locations all over Queensland inΒ bothΒ metropolitan, rural and remote locations. From Brisbane in the south, Mount Isa in the west, Normanton in the Gulf to Townsville and surrounds on the east coast. Cat contributed to the professional body of research when she authored a professional journal article which was published in β€˜Response’ Journal. While working as a Paramedic, Cat enjoyed mentoring students, new graduates, DefenceΒ forceΒ medics andΒ medical students. Cat was then offered an academic role teachingΒ and mentoringΒ 1st, 2nd and 3rd year Paramedic students at Central Queensland University which she thoroughly enjoyed.

Throughout her career in health, Cat has worked on the sidelines of many sporting events providing acute musculoskeletal injury management to both players and spectators. These events have included many National Rugby League matches, the Townsville Triathlon Festival, NAB AFL Cup and International Cricket Matches. Other events have included a large variety of school sports, motocross and motorsport events, rodeos and even horse racing.

When Cat is out of the clinic, she enjoys going on adventures with her young family, running, mountain bike riding, swimming, going to the gym, gardening, camping and attempting DIY home improvements. Cat’s long term personal goal is to compete in the Queensland Master’s Multievent State Championships in the Women’s Heptathlon.
